World Famous Movies filmed in New Zealand

Loved all of these I had no idea they originated there! The Piano ...Ahhhh I all most had forgotten about that movie, It was one of my favorites. I guess we learn something new every day, Thank Goodness!

I've been looking into moving to New Zealand so I want to get as much as possible from the area wether via movies, books, websites, etc. Anyway, here are a few other movies to add to your already good list: + Goodbye Pork Pie (1981) - road trip between Kaitaia in the far north to Invercargill in the deep south + River Queen (2006) - Wanganui + Whale Rider (2003) - the North Island's East Coast + Once Were Warriors (1994) - Auckland + Power Rangers television series (since 2003)- in and around Auckland + The Quiet Earth (1987) - Waikato University - Hamilton, Warkworth Transmitter Station + Xena television series - west Auckland region + The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) - alpine grassland and glaciers around Flock Hill Station in the Southern Alps near Christchurch, and other places.
Black sheep was also filmed in NZ. I used to live there but moved to the US only 3 months ago. I miss it so much. If anyone's looking for a fantastic holiday destination.. GO TO NZ!! woot!

Heavenly Creatures, based on the 1954 Parker-Hulme murder, starring Melanie Lynskey (Rose, in Three and a Half Men) and Kate Winslet.
The film was released to critical acclaim in 1994 and won Peter Jackson and partner Fran Walsh a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and is now considered a cult film.
-The 2 Hobbit movies, Hobbiton itself is near Matamata and well worth a visit! -David Hemmings’ Race for the Yankee Zepher around Queenstown and Fiordland. -Jane Campion’s The Piano on Kare Kare Beach, Auckland. -Niki Caro’s Whale Rider north of Gisborne. -Tom Cruise produced and starred in The Last Samurai in Taranaki. -Peter Jackson’s King Kong was filmed on a purpose built set in Wellington. -The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, of course. -Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures on the Port Hills. He also made The Frighteners with Michael J. Fox in Lyttleton near Christchurch. -The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe near Flock Hill, Christchurch. Also at Muriwai Beach near Auckland. - River Queen - filmed on Whanganui River. -Perfect Strangers, filmed on the West Coast. -Mt Cook was portrayed as Himalayan in The Vertical Limit -Without a Paddle with Burt Reynolds was filmed on rivers north of Wellington and the central North Island. -The World's Fastest Indian, The beach scenes were filmed along Muriwai Beach. -Plate shots resembling Northern Turkey were made near Selwyn for Lawrence of Arabia, as were the giant sand dunes near Hokianga. -Scenes for Matrix and Mission Impossible 2 were shot here. -Others worth mentioning are Xena, Walking with Dinosaurs, Once were Warriors, Babe, Pig in the City

Hello. I thought of another more recent (kind of) movie filmed mostly in New Zealand. Chronicles of Narnia.
NZ is an awesome place... i went there two summers ago as a student ambassador and we went through the town of Bulls.

I believe that the new Chronicles of Narnia movies were filmed about 75% in New Zealand
